Vision on change

Changes are executed in many different ways and with many different purposes. So there many change frameworks like Prince, PMBOK, Agile, Scrum, Lean, Sourcing, Life cycle Management, Organizational change, and so on. But in all some same basic patterns can be discovered:

1. A spiral lifecycle with five stepsdysc-5-stappen

  • Observe

    1. what is the problem or opportunity
    2. what is the scope of the change
    3. what is the mission and the specific objective
  • Think

    1. What is the cause or hinders us or what can contribute
    2. How can we best reach our objectives, what is the solution
  • Plan

    1. With what do we implement the solution, what are the building block
    2. Do we have suppliers for all building blocks and are they prepared
  • Act

    1. Who, where and when will deliver the solutions
  • Feel

    1. Who, where, when will use the solutions and will measure and evaluate the outcome, the impact, the benefits

The cycle is drawn as a spiral , because the intent of the change is to reach a higher level then where you started.

As a second pattern every change, indifferent the way it is executed, is founded on 4 components

2. 4 components or subprocessendysc-4-subprocessen

  • Create

    1. Create is a content based process of setting requirements, finding a suitable solution and after delivery of all COPAFITH components achieve the desired objective.
  • Communicate

    1. Communicate is a balancing process to acquire acceptance , support and collaboration by identifying stakeholder needs, choose appropriate behavioral approach and intervene in such way that support is acquired from all involved.
  • Control

    1. Control is process of balancing business needs scope with quality for sustainable user acceptance and allocating resource according needed timelines in order to reach desired and justified earned value level or budget.
  • Choose

    1. Control is process of balancing business needs scope with quality for sustainable user acceptance and allocating resource according needed timelines in order to reach desired and justified earned value level or budget.

The 4 components or sub processes follow also the basic process steps but with their own velocity, so in reality there are 4 processes that work and interact at the same time.

So in summary

dysc-5-stappen-4-subprocessen

Change is a spiral lifecycle process in order to achieve a higher level of wellbeing by executing the sub processes create, communicate, control and choose.

The change process as a whole and its sub processes all follows a basic pattern of observe, think, plan, act and feel. It starts with a feeling of an opportunity or a threat, by observing (1) what’s going on we set our objectives, then we think (2) about solutions and after that we have to plan (3) what is needed in all its impact areas, then deliver solution by acting (4) and in the end feel (5) or experience the use, so we know if our objective is reached.

After this a new cycle can begin.
